Abstract: Inspired by a discussion with students during the 2018 Society for Anthropological Sciences (SAS) Business Meeting, SAS has organized a methods-focused mentoring event for students and professionals. Anthropology students are often expected to learn ethnographic research and analysis methods from reading case studies and handbooks and may not have an expert available with whom they can consult about specific methodological questions. In an effort to bridge this gap in anthropology education and professionalization, SAS invites interested students and professionals to engage directly with methodological experts about their research and analysis questions. Experts will be available to answer questions one-on-one about the following ethnographic research methods: cultural consensus, cultural consonance, corpus-driven ethnography, dissemination of results, elicitation by frame, free-listing, interviewing, lexical analysis, pile sorting, mixed methods research design, social network analysis, and survey methods. To familiarize attendees with their realms of expertise before the annual meeting, each expert participant will post materials (videos and manuscripts) demonstrating how they have applied their methodology within the context of a case study on the Society for Anthropological Sciences website: http://sas.anthroniche.com/mentoring-event-materials/ [now https://anthropologicalsciences.blogspot.com/p/mentoring-event-materials.html].
